COMPREHENSIVE BOOK AWARD SITES
The American Booksellers Association Awards annually gives out the Book Sense Book of the Year Awards. In addition to the winner, four Honor Books are also designated in each category. These awards recognize the “hidden treasures” that bookstore members of the American Booksellers Association most enjoyed recommending to their customers during the previous year.
The Man Booker Prize for Fiction represents the very best in contemporary fiction. One of the world’s most prestigious awards, and one of incomparable influence, it continues to be the pinnacle of ambition for every fiction writer.
The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
The National Book Awards have become the nation’s preeminent literary prizes. Today, the Awards are given to recognize achievements in four genres: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature.
The National Book Critics Circle gives annual awards for the best book in five categories: fiction, general nonfiction, biography/autobiography, poetry, and criticism.
The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
The Nobel Prize in Literature has recognized the whole spectrum of literary works including poetry, novels, short stories, plays, essays and speeches. The Prize has distinguished the works of authors from different languages and cultural backgrounds. It has been awarded to unknown masters as well as authors acclaimed worldwide.
The PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction is the successor to William Faulkner’s generosity. It is an award designed to be independent of the demands of the publishing industry, free from all constraints of sales and marketing, free to flow from the judgment of a writer’s peers.
The Pulitzer Prizes are the country’s most prestigious awards and constitute the most sought-after accolades in journalism, letters, and music. The Prizes are perceived as a major incentive for high-quality journalism and have focused worldwide attention on American achievements in letters and music.
