Joining other towns across Connecticut, the Woodbridge Town Library is establishing a Poet Laureate position for Woodbridge.
Applications are being accepted now until Monday, February 24th.
The mission of the Town of Woodbridge’s Poet Laureate Program is to celebrate the value of poetry and to use poetry as a means to inspire, inform and entertain the community. The term of the Woodbridge Poet Laureate is three years and comes with an annual honorarium of $500.
The Poet Laureate Program seeks to:
- Promote the reading, understanding and writing of poetry
- Promote poetry as a form of communication having value — informing, teaching, inspiring and entertaining — in the everyday life of town residents
- Inspire an emerging generation of critical thinkers and writers
- Promote poetry as a form of literature that has deep roots among people of all ages and cultures
- Feature poems or other examples of literature, either authored by the Laureate or otherwise relevant, at public community events
- Represent Woodbridge in the CT Coalition of Poets Laureate
Qualifications
Poets may self-nominate or be nominated by a Woodbridge resident. The Poet Laureate must:

- be at least 18 years of age at the time of their appointment
- be a full-time Woodbridge resident.
- Have the ability and willingness to advance poetry in the public domain, and to participate in various public gatherings and educational sessions throughout the term
- Have a breadth of experience in the world of poetry
