Menu-for-the-Future-2016-cover   Are you interested in learning more about the many cultural, social, and ecological implications of what you eat? Curious about the connection between food and sustainability? If so, consider joining one of several Food Discussion Circles that will be forming soon. Each Food Discussion Circle will be composed of between 7 – 10 people, and will meet six times, approximately every other week, between the end of May – August. An introductory meeting explaining how these Food Discussion Circles will work will be held at the Woodbridge Town Library’s meeting room from 6:30 – 7:30 on Monday, May 7. Anyone who is considering joining a discussion circle is encouraged to come to this introductory meeting. The framework for these discussions is “Menu for the Future”, a self-guided curriculum created by the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) which has constructed discussion materials used by over 185,000 people worldwide. By joining a discussion circle, you will have an opportunity to read a variety of articles about food, and discuss them with others locally in the context of your personal experience. For an overview of the food topics discussed, and a taste of some of the articles, click: HERE. At the introductory meeting on May 7, you will have a chance to review the materials for the discussions, meet others who are interested in participating, learn how it will work, join a discussion group, and purchase the discussion course materials at a discount. Be sure to bring both your calendar and your checkbook to this meeting. Those who sign up to join a group at this meeting will have an opportunity to buy the course materials for a total of $25 that evening (payable by cash or check) as opposed to the normal $37 on-line price of the book with shipping. Three copies of the book will be available at the Woodbridge Town Library for those who prefer to borrow a copy. These “Menu for the Future” Discussion Circles are being organized collaboratively with the Woodbridge Town Library, the Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee, and Massaro Community Farm. For more information, or if you would like to join a Discussion Circle but cannot attend the May 7th overview, contact the front desk at the Woodbridge Town Library at (203) 389-3433.
