Join Jim and Willow Sirch, and Gary Wikfors for a lively afternoon of songs and tunes on Swedish nykelharpas, 5-string fiddle, Irish blackwood flute, octave mandola, bodhran and banjo. These three friends met performing together as part of the venerable New Haven-based band The Fiddleheads that has been playing for New England contra dances for 30 years.
As Headwaters, they bring together tradition music from Nordic-Celtic traditions that have inspired them for some time, presenting a repertoire that draws from Scandinavian, Irish, Scottish and Breton traditions vigorously preserved and passed down over generations, along with a few of their own more recent compositions. Enjoy an afternoon of memorable songs, haunting airs, and cheerful jigs and reels performed by these longtime musical friends.
When not playing for contra dances, Jim and Willow may often be found playing Sunday afternoon Irish sessions at Hamden’s Playwright Restaurant, and multi-instrumentalist Gary is equally at home performing a wide variety of styles as part of the Walkingwood Mandolin Quartet and the Bluegrass band Gold Rush.
